Georgetown :The People’s Progressive Party extends best wishes to all Guyanese on Arrival day, today, a national holiday. This is the 173rd anniversary of the arrival of the first group of bound labour from India to toil on the sugar estates.
The ruling party says, “when our fore parents came here, either as slaves or indentured labourers, the fruits of their labour were channeled to develop countries in Europe.
At this time we also have many new problems to overcome as we forge ahead with nation building. Most of these have come from abroad, since our country is heavily dependent on exports to improve our economic well being.
However the areas that are internal must be worked upon even more. We must work harder and produce more in all aspects of life in our country.
Our goal of eliminating poverty is out society must be diligently pursued by all.”
