Georgetown: Residents of Lethem and surrounding Region Nine communities will benefit from improved electricity supply by year-end, following the installation of six generating sets at the new power station which is currently under construction. The $137M power station is being constructed by Government to better the supply of electricity in Lethem and its surrounding communities. The equipment to be installed at the station is an estimated $20M. Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds who recently visited and inspected work ongoing at the construction site, reiterated that the generators will be in place by year-end, and that residents can expect a better service. Prime Minister Hinds, expressed satisfaction with the pace of the works, and said that the decision to construct a new power station was based on the issue of flooding in the community which often affects the present power station. The station will now be sited on relatively high ground in the commercial/ industrial area. By the end of this month, the synchronising mechanism and the connection will be put in place, and the switching over will be done in a way so as to not interrupt the entire electricity service.
