Armed businessman killed bandit

Dead: Trevor Barrow

Georgetown: Trevor Barrow, 26, called ‘Budda’ unemployed of lot 1010 Norton and Cemetery Road, armed with one .38 Rossi revolver and two live matching  rounds and Calvin Dover, 31  unemployed of lot PP 6 Bent Street, Werkmanville,  who was armed with one black glock 17 and ten live rounds were killed by police Friday after attempting to rob the proprietor of Les Variety Store, located at lot 22 Durban and Hardina Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.

Enquires disclosed that the businessman is a licensed firearm holder of one .32 pistol and is the owner of Les variety store which is at the bottom flat of a two storey concrete building, located on the Southern side of Durban Street.

The store had two metal shutters to the North and when one pened gives access to the public. According to the victim,  he opened  for business at 08:00hrs and about 10:30hrs he was packing goods to send to his other business at  Port Kaituma ,when he felt a cold metal object rest against his right side head.

He then heard a male voice demanded that he hand over his property. At the time, he was wearing a 60 penny weight gold chain around his neck, two gold and diamond finger rings value and a gold and diamond on his right hand.

He was also strapped with his firearm. The businessman said that while the men were trying to relieve him of his valuables  he heard a loud explosion outside of the store and Dover, who was holding a black firearm to his head ran out of the store, while Barrow continued to attempt to relieve him of his jewelry, but he was unsuccessful.

A scuffle ensued between them and Barrow pulled out a silver revolver from his front pants waist, pointed same at him and squeezed the trigger but the gun snapped. The victim then reached for his firearm in fear of his life and discharged several rounds, hitting Barrow, who fell to the ground. He immediately closed his business, during which the police came and he related his story to the police. The police then took possession of his firearm, which contained one live round.

The other bandit identified as Calvin Dover was killed by police not far from the crime scene in a house on Bent Street.
