Georgetown: Wells are to be constructed and completed at Cotton Tree, Hope, Sparendaam and Lochaber, under the 2.7 billion dollars allocated to the water sector in this year’s national budget.
Service connections on the East Coast of Demerara and East Berbice will also be upgraded, while a storage tank will be constructed at Bartica, which altogether will benefit more than 82 thousand persons in regions two to seven.
Additionally, the water supply system in a number of areas, including Kara Kara, Noitgedacht, nottinghamshire, Watooka and Richmond Hill, will be upgraded.
Thirty thousand residents are to benefit from the construction of two water treatment plants at Wisroc and Amelia’s Ward, along with the installation of transmission mains and district meters.
Another 160 million dollars will be expended on the hinterland water supply programme, which will benefit more than 15,000 people within regions one, seven, eight, nine, and 10.
