2011 Budget approved, Finance Minister says opposition did not make full use of the debate sessions.

Georgetown – After two very tough weeks of debate and consideration of estimates, the National Assembly yesterday approved the $161.4billion 2011 budget.

Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh expressed his gratitude for the efforts put into the discussions from both sides of the House.

Dr. Singh expressed disappointment that the opposition did not make full use of that advantage and this was reflected in the debate. He added that serious response or credible alternative policies or proposals were lacking from the opposition side of the House.
As it relates to the detailed consideration of the allocations for the various agencies, which was conducted this week, Dr. Singh noted that this is a very important process as it allows members of parliament on both sides of the House to interrogate the numbers, as well as seek clarifications and elaborations.

During the debate, opposition members dubbed the budget as an election one.
