Georgetown: Two hundred and sixty youths, are the newest additions to the troop strength of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), following their successful completion of the Basic Recruit Course in 2017. The new Privates were on show recently at the Colonel John Clarke Military School (CJCMS) at Tacama, when they put on a splendid parade which marked their "passing out". This group of newly-enlisted soldiers comprises 205 males and 55 females. Chief of Staff, Brigadier Patrick West, took the salute during the parade, as the new troops marched past in slow and quick time. Afterward, he delivered several charges, which were indicative of his and the Force's expectations of them. The charges were also meant to serve as guidelines regarding their conduct while serving as military personnel and developing their careers. Students and teachers from the St. Thomas, Calcuni, and Mount Caramel Primary Schools, were also present to witness the parade. Many had traveled from as far away as Aroiama on the Berbice River
