San Fernando: The National Infrastructure Development Company (NIDCO) has been selected by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to oversee the relocation of 300 families in preparation for the construction of the San Fernando to Point Fortin highway.
The Cabinet agreed last week to release the land to families, farmers, places of worship and schools.
Works Minister Jack Warner did not give an indication as to when the relocation process would begin, but he has assured that the process would be seamless.
He told a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Chaguanas that NIDCO was selected to avoid the bureaucracy associated with another state agency, the Estate Management and Business Development Company.
Last week, Minister Warner had to intervene to quell fiery protests in Point Fortin and La Brea, whose main concerns were roads, unemployment and neglect
The minister says he believes the highway project will help ease some of the concerns of these residents.
