40 arrested in Laventille raid

Laventille: Forty persons have been arrested in police raids in Laventille overnight into this morning. Police officers attached the Inter-Agency Task Force, Guard and Emergency Branch, Canine Branch, Port-of-Spain Divison CID and soldiers from the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, led by Acting Superintendent of Police Grant and Inspector Singh, carried out the exercise at Laventille between 11 pm last night until 9am today, where they searched homes.

They recovered one pistol, one revolver, 22 rounds of ammunition, 150 grams of cocaine, one kilo of marijuana, four walkie talkies and two stolen vehicles.

Of the 40 arrested, five were for murders, seven for possession of firearms and ammunition, seven for the possession of marijuana, three for the possession of cocaine, ten for outstanding warrants, five for shootings and three for inquiries for robberies.

Police say that these arrest made headway into the spiraling crime in the Laventille area.
