$460M Demerara Bank commissioned at Diamond commissioned

Diamond – President Bharrat Jagdeo expressed the desire for banking services in Guyana to move in a sophisticated direction enough to afford customers the opportunity to execute banking transactions successfully from the comfort of their own homes.

The Head of State was at the time speaking prior to the commissioning of the $460M Diamond, East Bank Demerara branch of Demerara Bank last evening, the final of three banks to be opened in the fast growing community.

Chairman of the board of Directors of Demerara Bank, Yesu Persaud complimented the Government for building the momentum of confidence in the nation and paving the way for the East Bank of Demerara to be the ideal location for development.

“With Diamond developing so fast, the Government must be complimented… we have confidence in the nation that’s why we have expanded and invested so much,” Persaud said.

 Government plans to upgrade the Diamond community to become part of an urbanised network, linking it with the capital, Georgetown. Already the process has started with 15,000 house lots being acquired.
President Jagdeo said also that the plan will include the necessary support infrastructure including more schools, police stations and the expansion of the four-lane road for which a design has already been completed.
