Georgetown : Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon announced that Cabinet has given its support for the Bank of Guyana (BoG) to introduce a higher denomination bank note.
“The $1000 bank note that currently exists as the higher denomination was introduced in 1996 and will be supplemented by a higher denomination. I think $5000 was mooted by the Bank of Guyana,” he said.
According to Dr. Luncheon, the BoG officials provided Cabinet with convincing explanations for the introduction of the higher bank note.
Guyana currently has four bank notes, $20, $100, $500 and $1000 and the addition of the $5000.
Guyana is the third Caribbean country to add $5000 to its bank notes.
