Georgetown : 515 teachers graduated from the Cyril Potter College of Education and according to Education Minister Shaik Baksh, the school system will be further boosted.
Of the 515 persons graduating, 50 are males, a number that Education Minister Baksh pointed out needs to be increased. Nevertheless, he expressed satisfaction with the number of trained teachers which is close to the 70 percent mark outlined in the Education Strategic Plan (ESP).
Minister Baksh told the teachers that this is just the beginning of their careers and that they must work hard in this changing period.
Minister Baksh reiterated that the Ministry is working along with the University of Guyana to establish mechanisms whereby teachers can obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in four years instead of seven. With the completion of the negotiations that component of the teacher improvement programme will incorporate the distance mode and face-to-face sessions, and even the use of on-line programmes.
