$54M visitors’ arrival centre commissioned at Kaieteur National Park

Essequibo : A $54M visitor’s arrival centre was commissioned in the Kaieteur National Park.  The centre was completed with support from the German Government and the Guyana Protected Areas System Project.

Present at the simple commissioning ceremony yesterday was Presidential adviser and the People Progressive Party Civic Presidential candidate Donald Ramotar, Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Norman Whittaker, German Ambassador to Guyana, Stefan Schlueter, Chairman of the National Park Commission Shym Nokta and other members of Kaieteur National Park Board and representatives of other Governmnet agencies.
Ramotar in his address said that Guyana should be an example to the rest of the world when it comes to sustainable management of its natural resources.

He pointed out that while environmental issues have been slowly creeping into the consciousness of people, “more and more we are recognizing that while human beings have done tremendous amount of work in science and technology, they too, have done much harm to the natural environment”.
