70 secondary schools to benefit from $223M computer equipment contract

Georgetown : The Ministry of Education and contractor, Digital Technology will sign the contract valued $222.9M, for the supply and delivery of computers and accessories for 70 odd secondary schools laboratories today.

This would see 1400 computer work stations, 64 servers, 64 over head projectors and 300 UPS being procured.

These labs are expected to be operational in time for the new school year beginning September.

This initiative is an element of the National Information Communication Technology (ICT) Strategy which is being implemented concurrently, with other programmes such as the ‘One Laptop Per family’ project.

And to ensure that teachers are adequately trained to deliver the programme, training will provided at the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD).

To date, over 3000 teachers have been trained in ICT.
