$700M to supplementary funds for capital works by Housing Authority

Georgetown: The Government of Guyana continues to display its commitment to provide affordable housing solutions across the country.

On Thursday, Minister within the Ministry of Communities with responsibility for housing, Annette Ferguson told the National Assembly that plans are in place to develop some 4,000 house lots in several regions.

During the 115th Sitting of the National Assembly of the 11th Parliament, Minister Ferguson requested supplementary funds in the sum of $700M to complete capital works by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA).

The Committee of Supply heard that the funds would be used to develop house lots in Mabaruma, Meter-Meer-Zorg, Annandale, Vigilance, Mon Repos, Foulis, Hope/Experiment, Ordnance, Fortlands, Lethem, Amelia’s Ward, Recht-Door-Zee, Cummings Lodge, Prospect, Providence and Kwakwani.

She stated that once granted, immediate works will begin in Recht-Door-Zee, Prospect Phase 2, Providence Phase 5 and Cummings Lodge.

The sum stands part of the supplementary provisions on the estimates totalling $8Billion for the period 2019-01-01 to 2019-12-31.
