Trinidadian man caught with drugs in false buttocks

Bridgetown.

A Trinidadian man was remanded to HMP Dodds after he was caught at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA)  trying to smuggle drugs into Barbados on Sunday.

Kevin Fortune, of John Gorman Street pleaded guilty to possession, trafficking, importation and intent to supply three and a half pounds of cannabis when he appeared in the District B Magistrates Court before Magistrate Laurie Ann Smith-Bovell yesterday.

Another Trinidadian Randy Avalon Ali of No. 10 Harding Place, Cocorite, Trinidad, who is currently residing at Thornbury Hill Christ Church was also charged in connection with the incident.

Police prosecutor Darwin Thompson  told the court Ali made the arrangements for Fortune to bring the drugs into Barbados. He bought a tricket for Fortune to travel from Trinidad to Barbados with the drugs and went to the GAIA to collect the cannabis and pay Fortune.

After Fortune cleared Immigration he was interviewed by police officers who suspected him of having drugs. His luggage was searched but found. A bulge in his pants caused lawmen to conduct another search.

The second search revealed that Fortune had a false buttocks and padded underwear containing two packages of cannabis.

Fortune and Ali were remanded to HMP Dodds until October 28.
