Georgetown: The Human Services and Social Security Ministry will be increasing its emphasis on single parents and other vulnerable groups, with the $9.18B allocation in this year’s national budget.
Minister Jennifer Webster says more than 400 single parents are expected to benefit from training programmes, which are geared to assist them in acquiring life skills.
Additionally, the Women of Worth (WOW) programme will be launched in Region ONE and more than 100 single parent women will benefit.
The Human Services and Social Security Ministry will work along with the housing ministry to construct core homes for public assistance beneficiaries.
The Minister said in 2013, says substantial efforts will also be made to further strengthen the central recruitment and manpower agency to create an effective labour market, where job seekers can register to find employment.
Among the other initiatives this year are parenting sessions countrywide, a national campaign against abuse and completion of the homeless centre at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice .
