A lone bandit struck at Good Hope Housing Scheme about 4 Am today and gathered a large quantity of jewellery and cash but his luck came to an end when he tried to reach a lap top computer and woke up one of the three member family of the home.
According to information from relatives of Mahendra Persaud who lives with his wife and another male in-law, he was awaken by a strange person trying reach a lap top and a fight broke out in his room.
An alarm was raised by other occupants of the home and residents in the street came out and tied the bandit to a tree and began to beat him.
The police arrived at the scene one and a half hour later and rescued the man, by that time the Persaud’s family discovered that their jewellery that was hidden under their altar was missing.
They questioned the bandit but he refused to say where the jewellery and money were.
The police eventually found the articles hidden under a tree at the back yard of the house.
The police took the jewellery and detained the victims of the robbery claiming that they should not beat the man.
They refuse to seek medical attention for the victims who sustained injuries during the fight with the bandit.
The relatives of the Persaud Family are questioning the police’s move why the victims are in police custody without being examined by a doctor.
Other residents in the area also complain of being victims to similar robberies.
The police is yet to issue a statement on the robbery.
