Caribbean Trakker has learnt that Guyana’s new Commissioner of Police will be the C’ division commander Balram Persaud.
Balram Persaud was pardon By President Cheddi Jagan in 1993 where he was charged for treason for allegedly plotting to overthrow the Desmond Hoyte administration; conducting miliatry excercises in 1989 in the jungles of Suriname, training men and obtaining material to execute the coup.
He was charged jointly with two other persons. Since his pardon by the PPP government he was promoted to senior superintendent of police.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Henry Greene, DSM may demit office within the next week or two making way for the tenth national of Guyana to command the Force since its establishment on July 01, 1839. Several names surfaced for the Presidential appointment for the top cop since Commissioner Greene retirement age has passed and there were no talk of an extension period.
