GECOM Boss today says 2nd stage of registration focuses on National Elections

   Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM ) Dr. Steve Surujbali briefing the media today, says GECOM looks ahead to the formal preparations for the conduct of General and Regional elections in 2011 and will conduct the 2nd cycle of continuous registration from September 6, 2010 via the 27 permanent GECOM registration offices located in all of the ten administrative regions.

He pointed out to persons without source documents that is persons who will be eligible for registration, but are not in possession of the relevant supporting documents are urged to take immediate steps to acquire their documents in order to facilitate respective registration during this continuous registration exercise.

The GECOM boss said the issue of overseas voting is a parliamentary and judicial issue and will not pronounce on it.

GECOM earlier this year said they were ready to run off Local Government Election but the Government and opposition did not complete the reform process.
