Residents of Sister’s Village on the West Bank of Demerara woke up at 4 a.m today to find their homes under water.
Some of the residents trying to hold back tears said they lost almost everything in their homes, their furniture, household appliances, vehicles covered with water, poultry and kitchen garden.
The flooding was as a result of a spring tide and poor drainage and irrigation in the area.
The residents said this is the first time they have experienced so much water on their lands within a few hours.
The affected persons were unable to go to work or send their children to school.
There were also reports of flooding along the West Coast of Demerara where the Leonora Police Station was flood out.
