President Bharrat Jagdeo while addressing CLICO policyholders yesterday pointed out that poor people must not suffer because of some large people supported by political consultants. The President’s statements referred directly to social commentator, Chartered Accountant and Attorney at Law Christopher Ram whose name was mentioned by the President.
Jagdeo claimed that Ram was responsible for poor people not to be paid their money after seven years, who had invested with Globe Trust which became bankrupt in 2001.
The President said he will not allow this to happen in the case of CLICO.
At yesterday’s meeting the president refused to answer questions from Mr. Ram during a brief question and answer segment.
In an exclusive interview with this publication today Christopher Ram said the President showed evidence of cowardice by refusing to answer questions on CLICO’s payment issue from a citizen he was lambasting during his speech.
The Accountant said the President should be more democratic and honest to the Guyanese people on the use of tax payer’s money.
He said the 3.6 billion dollars that the Government of Guyana will make available for CLICO’s policyholders to get back all of their money; 3 billion dollars will come from a petroleum fund which there is evidence of and 6 million from CLICO.
Ram also wants the President to tell the people of Guyana how the billions of dollars that was invested by the National Insurance Scheme will be retrieved.
He pointed out that with the CLICO issue; the President should left the Bank Of Guyana to do their work since they are the one the court left responsible to handle the liquidation of the Insurance company.
He called the move by the President dangerous and illegal.
