Armed Bandits Strikes at Cummings Lodge – Caught in Bushes

Three teenagers armed with hand guns broke into Tommy’s Grocery Shop at 4th  street South East Cummings Lodge just outside of the capital city at about 3 A.M today and carted off with approximately 1M dollars in cash, jewellery and cellular phones.

According to the proprietor of the business place Deo Ramdin the bandits gained entry in to the building by removing the louver windows.

Ramdin who lives with his wife and son said they heard noise coming from the shop area and upon investigating saw the men running out of the building.

Ramdin said he immediately raised and alarm and nearby resident came out and family at Mahaica, some 25 miles up the East Coast of Demerara.

One resident said he saw something in a nearby trench and called out on other residents to see what is was.

The bushes in the trench were too big to go in, but they waited until minutes after 4 A.M when the place started to get bright.

By that time the police came and a search began in the trench, two of the bandits were found and a bag of money and cellular phones and jewellery were found buried under the mud.

A check of the money was made in front of the police and 400,000 dollars were recovered. The two bandits were arrested and are in police custody.

One of the gunmen escaped with a quantity of cash.

A police search team has since launched for the lone bandit.
