Over a hundred thousand expected in the next 6 days as guyexpo 2010 opens

"Guyana continues to be an investor friendly country and is open for business",  the words of  Minister of Tourism, Trade and Commerce, Manniram Prashad as he encouraged local and foreign investors to take advantage of the many opportunities in Guyana. The Minister was speaking at the opening of Guyana’s and the Caribbean’s premier and biggest trade fair, Guyexpo. Prashad said that the business community in Guyana is willing to take risks and invest. He noted that there is a commitment to maintain the manufacturing sector as a key pillar of the economy, which is a significant contributor to the country’s gross domestic product.

In his feature address at the opening ceremony, President Jagdeo lauded the efforts of the local business sector, saying that businesses are positioning themselves to meet the challenges of a global environment. Jagdeo noted that It is essential for the private sector to be globally competitive and Government will support ambitious businesses who want to compete and win in today’s global economy. In his closing remarks, the President  added that building a strong, enabling environment for business is an option to create long term success

 Amidst a few showers, the Exposition was declared opened with the ceremonious cutting of the ribbon by President Bharrat Jagdeo. Guyexpo has over the years become a national institution, merging business with entertainment, to showcase Guyana’s trade, and culture. Over the next 6 days, about 300 local and foreign exhibitors will display their products and services. The exposition is expected to be packed every night with an estimated turnout at over 100,000 patrons over the next few days.
