President Bharrat Jagdeo established a high level cabinet team to oversight the sugar industry which is sliding downwards. This came at a time surrounding the issue of fallen production of sugar and its demand both domestic and external.
Support has been given to the industry by central Government out of the turnaround plan the Government had proposed last year.
According to the Governments spokesperson Dr. Roger Luncheon, Cabinet is aware of the factors and intention of having this team for executive oversight of close engagement of the industry, players, union and the board at Guysuco.
In the meantime the management and board of Guysuco was warned to bring the state of the art Skeldon Sugar Factory to the desire level of efficiency.
