Traffic chief Neil semple said his department should not be blamed for the recent road fatalities, of the 103 deaths caused by road accidents for 2010, 21 persons died of a result of crashes into bridges, lamp posts and trenches which he called suicidal.
Semple said the breathalyzer test which was introduced July last is in full effect and showed that in the county of Berbice, 410 persons were prosecuted for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The traffic officer pointed out that there will be an enforcement drive in all divisions leading up to the busy Christmas holidays with motorcars and motorcycles patrols day and night.
