At the time of the robbery Mr Chattergoon was staying in another home in the capital city and his wife and two children are overseas on vacation.
He said his neighbour at Nandy Park called and informed him that persons were seen removing articles from his home and he immediately drove to the Providence Police station but to his surprise the gates were padlocked and when he raised an alarm he saw four police officers sleeping in a police vehicle.
He was subsequently told to speak with the officer in the station who said he needs to make an official report.
Mr Chattergoon said he pleaded with the police to respond to the robbery so they can possibly catch the burglars in the act or on the road but they refused to go.
He then drove all the way to the Ruimveldt Police station and reported to the lone rank there.
The officer radio the Brickdam Police station in Georgetown and a mobile patrol was dispatched to the scene.
The police arrived approximately one and a half hour after the bandits left.
The Chattergoon family returned to Guyana a few years ago but is now contemplation to go back to the United States to live since they claim that the security in Guyana is poor.
