Pandemonium broke out today at the Guyana Revenue Authority’s Licence office at Smyth Street Georgetown as motorists rushed to get there vehicle licence renewed. The extended deadline date published in the media for persons to renew their vehicle licences was July 13, 2010.
For the past years several letters were penned to have motor licence be sold at other outlets since there was a heavy build up of people at the lone Smyth Street office whenever vehicle license are ready to be renew for the year and this frustrated many people especially those who would take time off from their work place and eventually had to spend the entire day there.
This year it was advertised since the 2010 budget was released in mid January that several GRA offices will be selling license to avoid any chaos at the main office.
The outcome has clearly showed that Guyanese would wait for the last minute to act on matters important to them.
Today Traffic Police officers are on the lookout for those who are not complying with the traffic laws and will be prosecuted if their license is not in order
Meanwhile there is a call for the decentralizing of the immigration office at Camp Street since persons across the country have to come to that one location to apply or renew their passports.
The camp street office only takes in seventy five applicants per day Monday to Friday. Persons who would go there would normally have to reach there at 4am to ensure they are in the 75 range be it raining or not.
