Relatives of the late Assistant Superintendent Ivelaw Murray postpone the funeral ceremony calling for an inquiry into the death of the officer.
On July 04 2010 it was reported that Murray shot another officer Kevin Sheperd and took his life using a service .32 revolver at the Springlands Police Station, Berbice.
The mother of the dead Murray, Jenitta Murray Daniels is now questioning the Police Force the cause of death since the post mortem report states that two gunshot wounds were found with different sizes exit wounds which suggested that two different guns were used.
According to forensic pathologist Dr. V. Brijmohan one of the bullets went through the temple and exited the back of the head leaving 3.0 cm wound and the other through the chin and exited the forehead between the eyes leaving a 2.5 x 1.0 cm wound. Both he said are fatal. Ms Daniels said she made contact with the Police commissioner Henry Green who she claimed did not responded in a pleasant manner maintaining that the officer committed suicide.
The mother was also shock to hear from the top cop that her son was a homosexual.
No evidence from the post mortem report supported that the officer was a homosexual.
The grieving mother said her son spend fifteen years in the police force and was promoted after she herself raised the matter with the then police commissioner a decade ago of her son’s education level entering the police force with nine subjects at the CXC level. He was subsequently promoted and had the opportunity to further his studies at the University of Guyana where he obtained a degree in Mass Communication.
Ms. Daniels postponed the Funeral Ceremony fourteen days now calling for a military funeral and an investigation into her son’s death.
She also highlighted that her son was congratulated by the C division commander Assistant Commissioner Steve Marrai for successfully heading a drug bust two weeks before his death.
