Management of the GPHC Claims that the non-functioning of its mortuary is only a rumor and there is absolutely no truth to it. It must be noted, for the sake of clarification, that over the weekend, it was observed that a motor of the Mortuary’s refrigerator was not working; however, there was no cooling taking place. Immediately upon this discovery, efforts were made to contact a specialist, but owing to the fact that it was the weekend, there was some difficulty in making immediate contact with the individual. He subsequently reached and the problem was rectified today, July 19, 2010.
All bodies sent to respective funeral homes were so done as per normal, relatives came and the bodies were released for burial.
The management of the hospital says they thank the media houses that telephoned the hospital first for verification and confirmation before publishing such story and create any public panic.
Over the weekend word spread that the Mortuary is not functioning and GPHC has had to send several bodies to various funeral homes for storage.
