Approximate 120 families at 2nd street Garden of Eden on the East Bank of Demerara are calling on the Public works ministry to monitor the situation about their main road there.
Farmers said that they have to travel a few miles from their homes to the East Bank public road to bring out there produce to send it to the city to find market.
They claimed that the road is in a very bad state and works to it had started but came to a halt.
The heavy machinery that went there further damage the road and now it is not possible to traverse there.
Courtney Benn contracting firm is responsible for the repairs of that road and several calls were made for a comment but proved futile.
The farmers there depend on their produce which includes dairy farming and poultry to provide for their families.
The farmers are also asking the Agriculture minister Robert Persaud to look into their plight since they are working according to the call made by him to be part of the massive GROW MORE campaign.
The Guyana Government recently send a strong message to contractors responsible for infrastructure works and construction of public buildings to get their act together or if found doing substantial work done according to the schedule , they will be black listed from further contracts with the government.
