Georgetown-
Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir, today issued a stern warning with respect to breaches of the Essential Services Act, under which a number of entities fall. Minister Nadir is re-stating this in light of two wild card strikes that have hit the electricity sector and the municipality. Specifically, Nadir refers to the strike yesterday by workers of the Guyana Power and Light Company and the strike by some categories of workers in the Linden Municipality.
Minister Nadir said that he noted these two alarming instances and is moving condignly deal with them and to ensure that there is respect for our laws. The Minister said that those workers, who engage in actions contrary the Essential Service Act, open themselves to being terminated and loosing hard earned benefits.
In addition, the laws provides for penalties for anyone who contravenes the Act.
