Wages and salaries increase for sugar workers postponed as Guysuco seek private cane harvesters.

Ogle, East Coast– Guysuco’s management has stalled the proposed wages and salaries increase for this week following the ongoing impasse between the Corporation, the Union and sugar workers. Chief Executive Officer of Guysuco Paul Bhim told reporters that workers’ attendance has been at an all time low this year, and this is responsible for the low production. Bhim said there is cane but not enough workers to harvest the crop. Efforts are now being put in place to have long term plans to hire private contractors, since workers’ strike is something now inevitable and results in huge losses to the Corporation.
