More than fifty workers who are planters at the LBI Sugar estate today stage a protest action at the Estate’s office calling for their regular four days work. Presently at the estate it is out of crop time and the planters would normally get four days work but are only getting one or two days per week now. Out of crop time the planters will do more maintenance work like cleaning canals, painting punts and preparing for the next crop. The angry workers said they tried to speak with the general manager of the estate Mr. Kissoon Singh but he drove away when they tried to meet with him. They also voiced their concerns about the union GAWU that represents workers there but got no representation. They claims that the protest action will continue until their concerns are being taken to attention.
