A citizen’s 2013 wish list

Greetings to all Guyanese in the Diaspora-from the Caribbean to the neighbouring South American countries to those in Europe and North America-and to my fellow citizens who made a decision to stay within the borders of our beloved, beautiful but blighted land.

May your objectives attract opportunities and mechanisms for the personal success and the progress and well-being of your family and community. So plan your year and assess your 2013 Checklist by, say, March-end 2013.

For Canadians, both “original” citizens and the immigrants-turned-full-pledged-loyal Canadians, I wish that their government resolve the First Nation’s issue. Every State should give due recognition and respect to the citizens and descendants who were the first to people that nation.

I also wish Canada and Canadians well with their booming oil resource which is now attracting even Americans to Edmonton and other parts of the province of Alberta. I’ve always suspected that Canada-with its vast-if cold northern territory to accommodate still more people AND its yet untapped natural mineral resources, can easily become a major international economy, even as others tend to “enjoy” such a (dubious) status.

For Guyana, I, on behalf of my working-class Comrades across the Green Land, have numerous New Year wishes. They are known-and yearned for-by most Guyanese in Guyana.

But here are just a basic six:

(1) That the Government and Parliamentary opposition AGREE on most of the upcoming 2013 Budgetary allocations. (2) That the Budget contains decent improvements in incomes and conditions for public employees and vulnerable groups. (3) That, again, some national consensus be reached this year for reducing local CRIME. (4) That every national infrastructural project be monitored by “people’s experts” from start to finish. (5) That corruption in high places and the drug trafficking attract international assistance and (6) That resources, personnel and political will be made available to clean up the Capital Georgetown from January to December 31st, 2013

Now if you are a patriotic concerned Guyanese living in Guyana, you’ll know why those “Basic 6” are crucial to our national existence and integrity.

(If you live away from Guyana, I hope you find it possible to concur). A Great 2013 filled with good health and success to all.
