“A Partnership for National Unity” unveiled as the Joint Opposition Political Parties head into the 2011 elections.

Georgetown: The declaration and unveiling of the name forming the Joint Opposition Political Parties is gaining momentum at the Savannah Suite Pegasus where speakers are currently giving their commitment to share a common desire to ensure a bright future for Guyana. The make up of the APNU under the motto: Guyana's  Future in Our Hands" is The People's National Congress Reform, The Guyana Action Party, The National Front Alliance, The Working People's Alliance. The Meaning of the name according to the party is "A" emphasises the moving away from multiple interest into a cohesive unit. The term "Partnership" convey the idea of sharing. "National" refers to the homeland, "Unity" gives the level playing field, removing all barriers.  

Presidential Candidate of "A Partnership for National Unity"(APNU) Brigadier(Ret) David Granger in his statement said that the APNU makes a solemn covenant with the Guyanese people to work together to unite a broken nation."We pledge to work to restore our youth's faith in the future, we promise to promote real development, not calculated by the accumulation of cars on the roads or the height of our houses in the suburbs, but measured by safety, good education and jobs, liveable wages, hinterland development, safe hospitals for expectant mothers and children who have hope for the future".

Leader of the PNC/R Robert Corbin said that his party and membership embraces this historic event and that the APNU offers all Guyanese and Guyana an opportunity for a new beginning."The country is at a dead end and it's time to make a U turn with confidence and conviction that our country lies in our hands" he added.

In his remarks leader of the National Front Alliance Keith Scott told the gathering : "Operating under one umbrella of unity, we hope to see an end to many of the social ills that daily impinge on the lives of Guyanese.

In reading out the APNU'S Declaration co- leader of the Working People's Alliance Dr. Rupert Roopnarine said that far too long, there have been centralised political power in all -powerful Executive President and that the future of good national governance requires separation of the functions of the head of state from those of the head of Government.

The vision in the declaration of the APNU is : The creation of a Guyana in which her citizens can live productive lives free from the ravages of poverty, secured in their homes, and are able to enjoy the benefits of political, social and cultural liberation.
