Members of the Drug Squad and the Marine Unit of the Royal Barbados Police Force sized over ton cannabis value over a million dollars following a shootout between lawmen and armed assailants at a beach in Fitts Village, St James on Sunday night.
The lawmen were conducting an operation on a beach located at on of Barbados' most pristine tourist areas, when they encounter a large group of men who shot at them with heavy calibre weapons.
They returned fire and the men fled. Subsequently one man was held in the sea and two other men were capture on a nearby beach.
The illegal drug was found in 50 polythene bags and three taped packages with a total weight of 2044 pounds. Two vehicles, one firearm and a boat were seized during the operation.
