Ederly patients abandoned at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) will be moved to more suitable accommodations at the Geriatric Hospital.
This announcement was made by Minister of Social Care Steve Blackette, in the House of Assembly yesterday, speaking during a parliamentary debate for supplementary for $244,000 to purchase medical equipment to outfit Wards 2B and 3B at the Geriatric Hospital for elderly persons abandoned at the QEH.
Blackette said persons who abandoned their ederly relatives at the QEH are leeches.
"I consider them unfeeling leeches, calling themselves families and sometimes friends who benefit from any proceeds from their mother, their father, their aunts, their uncles or any other relatives. Sometimes these very relatives ignore their loved ones; not knowing if they had a meal but as soon as they are hospitalised, they move in like termites in the night shedding their wings and taking over property as if it was theirs", Blackette said.
Over 100 elderly persons are currently living at the QEH after they were abandoned by their relatives.
