Acting Prime Minister to probe failed death threat reports

Port-of-Spain: Acting Prime Minister Winston Dookeran says he plans to approach the National Security Council for further information on an official report that there was no plot to assassinate the prime minister and three of her cabinet colleagues.

The information was given to the government by the security forces and Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs is maintaining that the Police Service acted on intelligence concerning the  assasination plot.

A probe conducted by Superintendent John Daniel of the North Eastern Division and submitted to Gibbs has allegedly found no physical evidence of a plot to assasinate Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissesar and three of her Cabinet colleagues.

The findings have raised questions as to the validity of the claim and the competence of Gibbs and his officers but the commissioner insists there was in fact information to suggest that a threat was imminent and the police took action.
