AFC, APNU finalizes Cummingsburg Accord

Georgetown: The Alliance for Change (AFC) has reached consensus on the Cummingsburg Accord with the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in the aftermath of a decision that will leave the party with two less seats in parliament, making it 10.  

This is according to AFC’s Chairman, Khemraj Ramjattan, at a press conference on Friday where he told reporters that soon the two parties will have a joint signing.

In the agreement, AFC will get the position of Prime Minister and four Cabinet posts. For the National Assembly, the position is a 30/70 compilation.

 “We are happy,” Ramjattan stated, adding that the party decided to accept a reduced role in a new Coalition government because “an agreement had to be reached,” with the party choosing to join with APNU again instead of going it alone.

He said only when the formal signing of the accord occurs, then the details will emerge.

“The parties will campaign jointly for the reelection of the APNU/AFC coalition with a view to winning the 2020 elections and delivering on its commitments to the citizens of Guyana, much has been achieve by the parties in its first term in office and much more will be achieved during a second term together,” he said.

The AFC Chairman said with the approach of first oil, no Guyanese must feel left out as prosperity will follow.

“As a coalition partner the AFC will being value to the next government and a reassurance that all Guyanese will benefit from our countries natural wealth,” he said.
