AFC calls for a mid-November elections date

Georgetown : The Alliance For Change (AFC) believes that the upcoming National and Regional Elections can be held by the 14th of November 2011 if GECOM allows no further delays.  The party indicated that they have written to the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission regarding this.

“We strongly advise GECOM to prepare for a mid-November elections date so as to avoid December elections which will impact negatively on the business community and on our Christian communities.  This was one of the concerns raised by the AFC nearly one month ago in our initial response to the reopening of the Claims and Objections exercise.  Any further delay will make December the only option for Guyanese to have elections anytime in the near future.”

The AFC is very concerned about rumours that a small special-interest group is attempting to prevent the Guyanese public from exercising their constitutional right to vote for a government of their choice.

The AFC calls on the Chairman of GECOM to reconfirm to the Guyanese Citizens that GECOM will be ready for elections by November of 2011.
