AFC says irresponsibility of Guysuco caused Bath residents to flood out.

Bath, West Berbice – The Alliance for Change (AFC)condemns the arrogant and condescending manner in which Mr. Krisna Sewlall, the Ministry’s Agriculture Coordinator for Region 5, interacted with the aggrieved residents at a meeting held at the Regional Democratic Council’s office in Fort Wellington.

According to the party’s spokesperson, Mr. Amar Panday, Mr. Sewlall  told residents that they are not educated enough to understand the working of the drainage system and that they were exaggerating the extent of their losses. The AFC believes that such high handed and conceited behavior by a servant of the State is not in consonance with the ideals of good governance.

The AFC calls on Guysuco to reimburse the aggrieved farmers and residents for the losses caused by this act of gross irresponsibity. According to the research conducted by the AFC, such losses amount to several hundred thousand dollars.

The AFC had been informed of a non functional Koker and drainage canal aback of Bath which could have served to bring relief to inundated residents.

“It is the neglect of such fundamental infrastructure that perpetuates this order of incompetence and inefficiency,”Panday said.
