African national busted with cocaine worth $30 million

Berbice :Ranks of the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) acting upon a tip-off yesterday morning intercepted an African national, Sulaimom Adeboye Adelodun with 21.748kg of cocaine en route to Nickerie, Suriname.
The man was busted at about 05:30h. The cocaine had a street value of $30 million, but according to a CANU official, had it reached Suriname, it would have fetched up to US$25000 per kilo (approximately $108 million).
According to information received, the African national was about to board a boat at a backtrack crossing in Berbice when the bust was made. The man reportedly had a small suitcase containing clothes and further checks unveiled the cocaine stashed between the garments.
Adelodun was immediately taken off the boat and taken into custody by CANU officials for further questioning.
The substance was tested and was proven to be the illicit drug. Adelodun is presently on $750,000 bail following a previous charge for trafficking in narcotics. He was arrested at a city hotel on February 23, 2011, with four bricks which weighed 4.5 kilos of cocaine.  He will make an appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts today.
