A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) proposed $33.7B in cuts from the $208.8B budget 2013 estimates.
APNU joined with AFC and circulated its proposed amendments to the budget. APNU cuts include reducing the GUY$224M for the Board of Industrial Training to GY$140M, the GY$4.5B for ICT to GY$2.08B, the GY$10.2B for Electrification to GY$5.2B.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Rapheal Trotman yesterday ruled that the National Assembly has the power to amend or cut the national budget. However, he advised that the opposition should be responsible in their budget cuts.
Opposition announced that the GY$ 20B for the LCDS will be reduced to GY$1B, while the Youth Initiative Programmes GY$60M will be slashed by half. The GY$5. 3B for the modern Cheddi Jagan International Airport will be reduced to GY$1. The opposition also plans to allocate GY$1 to the specialty hospital, NCN, GINA, the Office of the First Lady as well as Sports and Arts Development . The Ethic Relations Commission’s GY$93.5M will be reduced to GY$1M.
