Georgetown : An armed police constable, who was on duty at the Mobile Outpost at Stabroek Market Square, had arrested a man following a report of alleged assault made against him by a female and placed him in custody at the Mobile Outpost.
While arrangements were being made to have the suspect taken to the Brickdam Police Station, he ran out of the Mobile Outpost in an attempt to escape but was recaptured after being pursued by the police constable and public-spirited persons.
At Longden Street, while being taken back to the Mobile Outpost, the suspect attacked the police constable and attempted to take away his firearm. A struggle ensued between the suspect and the police rank during which a round was discharged which struck Dwayne Dodson.
Dwayne Dodson was taken to the Georgetown Hospital where he has been admitted for medical attention.
The suspect in the assault matter is in police custody.
