Georgetown- Information from Guysuco is that Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud followed through on his commitment to ensure that the Government via the Ministry of Health addresses the medical expenses of injured cane harvester Davekumar Jainauth. Mr. Jainauth is attached to the Blairmont sugar estate and fell ill while working in the fields on February 15th. After being taken to the New Amsterdam hospital for treatment his relatives subsequently took him to the Mahaicony and Georgetown Public Hospitals.However, not satisfied he was taken to a private hospital where a similar diagnosis was made to that at the public health institutions that he needed to rest so that his back ailment will heal in the shortest possible time.
Minister Persaud visited the injured worker yesterday to assess his recovery process and promised to raise concerns about aspects of the public health system expressed by Jainauth to the subject Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy. The Agriculture Minister concluded his visit by indicating that he will continue to monitor the progress of Jainauth.
