Airline Pilot’s Association tells Caribbean Airlines to put passengers safety first

Piarco: The Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots Association (TTALPA) has made its first public statement on Saturday's crash-landing of BW 523 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana.

TTALP said it is encouraged by ambitious developments planned by Caribbean Airlines for its future development and expansion, to increase market share and to provide the most reliable, safe and pleasant experience for its passengers but also urges caution during such a rapid expansion mode so that it ultimately would not compromise the safety of both passengers and crew.

Calling the crash-landing which occured after the aircraft overshot the runway, "an unfortunate accident", the association says it being  the first of its kind in the aviation history of this country it  can certainly serve the authorities involved as to the management of all aspects of aviation operations, being an opportunity to strengthen areas that are good and immediately rectify those areas that are in need of attention.

The association does not elaborate on what areas need attention.

TTALPA adds the crash-landing should be used for the comprehensive review of the aviation industry as a whole, and Caribbean Airlines limited in particular as the country’s principal air carrier regionally and internationally.
