Georgetown: A Partnership for National Unity (A.P.N.U) Presidential Candidate Brigadier (ret) David Granger, People’s National Congress Reform Member of the National Assembly, Dr. George Norton and Attorney-at-Law David James of the Guyana Action Party represented the Partnership at this year’s National Amerindian Heritage Day celebrations.
The celebrations – held under the theme ‘Our Culture, Our Heritage, Our Life’ showcased the rich diversity of the Amerindian culture and tradition. Aishalton, the site for the Heritage Day celebrations, is a farming village with a population of about 800 mainly Wapichan residents in South Rupununi in the Upper Essequibo-Upper Takutu Region.
A.P.N.U team – comprising Brigadier Granger, Doctor Norton and Mr. James – interacted with the large crowd and later met concerned villagers. Despite the pride generated by the ‘Heritage Day’ observances, Aishalton residents complained about the high cost-of-living and the high rate of unemployment caused largely by poor transportation and inadequate infrastructure in the Rupununi.
A.P.N.U team committed itself to working with the community to solve the problems which are hindering development
