Amendment to extend categories of free movement and Broadcasting Bill high on the agenda to be tabled in Parliament on July 2nd .

 

Georgetown : Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon today said that an amendment was approved by Cabinet for the Road Traffic Act to establish traffic wardens and provide them with powers to support ranks of the Traffic Department of the Guyana Police Force (GPF). 

An amendment will also be tabled for the legislation with regards to free movement of skilled nationals to extend free movement to include other categories than what obtains at present. This will be complemented by an amendment to the Immigration Act to which this extension applies. 
The new categories include: university graduates, major workers, musicians, artistes, sports persons, teachers, registered nurses, persons holding associate degrees, artisans possessing a Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ), or an approved national vocational qualification, and domestics who have acquired a CVQ, or any qualification certified by the Secretary General of the CARICOM.      

Additionally, the long-awaited Broadcasting Bill will be tabled in the National Assembly on July 2.
