Georgetown : APNU reiterates that the recently passed Local Government Bills ought to have been assented to by now. The Party today says that President Donald Ramotar will not want to be remembered as the President who undermined local government reform in Guyana. He must, therefore, put an end to these prevarications and assent to the Bills.
APNU further says that it is the Clerk of Parliament who has the duty to present the Bills to the President, not the Attorney General. APNU has a Bill pending in Parliament to secure his independence from the Government which persists in seeking to dominate him and subvert his authority.
APNU notes that it is fallacious to assert that the Bills were the subject of complex amendments. The appropriations Bills 2012-2013 were subjected to many and varied budget cuts/amendments yet after passage in the House were not assented to by the President in a matter of days.
