APNU claims statement of polls missing from South Georgetown

Georgetown : A Partnership Party for National Unity (APNU) is contending that over 100 Statements of Polls (SOPs) are missing from Region Four.  This disclosure was made this morning as executives of the party addressed a media briefing at its Congress Place, Sophia, Georgetown, headquarters.
Based on reports reaching the party, the SOPs that have disappeared from the South Georgetown area appears to have not been included in the final count, which could see about 10,000 people being disenfranchised. “If people in South Georgetown find that they are disenfranchised we don’t know if we can restrain them…The Constitution says we have a right to freedom of expression and assembly, and it appears we are in an official state of emergency, APNU’s Prime Ministerial Candidate, Rupert Roopnarine said.
It was revealed too that several workers across the city were sent home early in anticipation of riots.  As such the party is urging that “all discrepancies be resolved before the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) makes an official declaration. Let all parties verify their SOPs together; there must be a reconciliation of SOPs…” Roopnarine insisted.
He added too that “we have sufficient evidence of manipulation at tabulations centres and we believe that the declaration by GECOM is now in jeopardy.”
APNU officials are of the firm belief that the process is contaminated, noting that in addition to the concerns raised by the Organization of American States (OAS), the level of transparency has not been optimum and SOPs do not match, all of which are features that are tantamount to unacceptable discrepancies.
According to the Executive Member “I am sure that the people are already informed because we try to keep them informed and if all is not rectified we are doing everything to avoid spontaneity…The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) I (think) is setting a trap and provoking unrest…I don’t know what Jagdeo hopes to achieve by seeking to deploy forces…it may very well be possible that he wants to declare a State of Emergency,” Roopnarine said.
However despite the development, the party said that its stands ready to accept the impending results “if at the end of the process it appears to be a lawful one.”
The party has since inked a letter of concern which was delivered to GECOM’s office by its Elections Agent Mr. Joseph Harmon.
